Google Insight: A Technology To Search On Search Data For Businesses

Recently I have come across to another great technology from the web search giant Google: Google Insight for Search (http://google.com/insights/search/#). It is another innovative idea to use the data collected by millions of searches a day on its search engine. Google Insight is basically a tool which can help you look into the user’s search trends over various parameters which could be useful for business.

With Google Insight you can search on any search term/phrase searched over/during a time period, by geographical locations and categories (Like Arts, Sports). You can even compare two search terms for being searched by your criteria. Google Insight gives a good set of results including:
1. Graph showing the number of search over the time for the given keyword/search phrase
2. A location wise chart displaying origin of search for the given phrase
3. Top news headlines including search keywords
4. Top searches including the search phrase and also list the search phrases rising into number of count including the given keyword

Google Insight in just one line is: A search on all the search made through Google. It means when a users search on Google, its been recorded for future use and hence huge database of user search has grown. Google insight gives you an interface to look insight its database for your own purpose.

For example: if you are a travel company & want to launch a tour package for Bahamas. You would probably like to know the time period when users are most interested in – Bahama or going to Bahamas. So you can search on ‘beautiful Bahama’ or ‘Bahama tour’ with category travel on Google Insight (http://google.com/insights/search/#cat=67&q=Bahama%20tour%20&cmpt=q) , You will see the pattern that its been searched in the period of Dec-Jan-Feb every year.

Try one example from Google Insight team: http://google.com/insights/search/#q=runescape%2C+world+of+warcraft
Google Insight team has also provided some examples to show its significance and uses for businesses: http://www.google.com/support/insights//bin/answer.py?hl=en-US&answer=96693

search result

According to Google: ‘Google Insight shows only shows results for search terms that receive a significant amount of traffic, and enforces minimum thresholds for inclusion in the tool’. Google has evolved as the most used search engine that means it has most powerful algorithms & programs for optimum search and highest user count more than any other web based search application, which makes Google more authentic about the data and results provided by its services. It is amazing to see they are really pushing the bar higher every time they do something. Google Insight really seems to be an useful tool for businesses if they really understand how to use it.
